Mary Alice Lee Steward Childress, 93, of Thomasville, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at The Oaks of Thomasville. Born Aug. 25, 1914, in Davie County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late William Frank Stewart and Margaret Mae Taylor Stewart.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. today at Central Wesleyan Church on Hinkle Street in Thomasville. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the home of Carolyn and Richard Conrad of Thomasville. Memorials may be directed to Memorial Park Wesleyan Church, P.O. Box 486, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Hubert Richard Hamilton Jr.
LEXINGTON — Hubert Richard Hamilton Jr., 68, of Old Mountain Road, Lexington, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at Forsyth Regional Hospital in Winston-Salem. Born Feb. 6, 1939, in Davidson County, he was a retired employee of PPG after 27 years of service.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lori Anne Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home on Old Mountain Road in Lexington. Nelson Lamb
Nelson James Lamb, 67, of 212 Grimes Park Drive in Thomasville, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007. Born Nov. 10, 1940, in Randleman, N.C. he was the son of the late Luther and Martha Lamb.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday in J.C. Green and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Huey Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service.

Don Palmer
LEXINGTON — Donald Lynn “Don” Palmer, 75, of U.S. Highway 52, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2007, at First Baptist Church of Welcome by the Rev. Mark Blair. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Palmer was born Sept. 15, 1932 in Marion, Va., to Basil Palmer and Lula Margaret Begley Palmer. Mr. Palmer also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Davidson County School system. He served as coach, teacher, assistant principal, principal, and central coordinator and director. He also served as executive secretary of the Central Piedmont Conference for over 20 years. He served on the Davidson County Board of Education for 16 years, four years as vice chairman and eight as chairman. He is a member of the Davidson County Sports Hall of Fame. The North Davidson High School Football field was named this past August Palmer Field, in his honor. In addition to his parents Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by brother, Robert Palmer and a half brother, Buddy Palmer.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Hazel Norma Potts Palmer of the home; sons, Danny Palmer and wife, Ava, of Lexington, and Donald Palmer Jr. and wife, Christy, of Winston-Salem; daughters, Barbara Hege of Lexington, and Susan Keith and husband, Michael, of La Plata, Md.; grandchildren, Allyson Hege, Mitchell Keith, Marissa Keith, Zachary Palmer, Madison Palmer, Jackson Palmer and Logan Palmer; step-granddaughter, Sumer Hege; stepgreat-grandson, Austin Jeffries; brother, Tom Palmer and wife, Cathy, of Prince Frederick, Md.; and a half brother, David Hamill of Baltimore, Md.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Clifford “Cliff” Overcash
LEXINGTON — Joseph Clifford “Cliff” Overcash, 75, of Lexington, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, aat Alston Brook following an illness of three months. Born April 2, 1932, in Davidson County, he retired from Dixie Furniture Company after serving many years and he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Funeral servcie will be held at 11 a.m. today at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Frankie Matthews and the Rev. Steven Watkins officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the home of the daughter, 402 Kentwood Lane, Lexington. Memorials may be directed to Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington; to Baptist Mid-Missions for the ministry of the Rev. Steven and Jill Watkins in Brazil, South America, P.O. Box 308011, Cleveland, Ohio 44130; or to the stewardship fund at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, 210 Cotton Grove Road, Lexington, N.C. 27292.

Grimes Phillips
LEXINGTON — Grimes Byerly Phillips, 73, of Phillips Road in Lexington, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at his home. Born March 29, 1934, in Davidson County, he was a retired farmer.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel with the Rev. Carroll Lupton Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Byerly Family Cemetery.
