LEXINGTON — Reid Sidney Davis, 88, of 1511 Embler Road in Lexington, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, in Lexington Memorial Hospital. Born May 7, 1919, in Davidson County, he served his country in the U.S. Navy, a veteran of World War II.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Alan Martin officiating. The family will receive friends for the hour prior to the service at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. Memorials may be directed to Thomasville Church of Christ, 2209 Ball Road, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

John Herring
John Henry Herring, 68, of Thomasville, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at his home. Born Sept. 26, 1939, in Tabor City, N.C., he was an avid fisherman.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Family Funeral Care Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Baity officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Doris Hicks
LINWOOD — Doris Hewett Hicks, 50, of Old Salisbury Road in Linwood, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at her home. Born June 12, 1957, in Forsyth County, she was a former employee at Daran Furniture and was employed at Yarborough’s Restaurant.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Arrington Heights Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug McGee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of the sister, Dottie Hensley, 206 Reich St., Lexington.

Roby C. Leonard
LEXINGTON — Roby Clay Leonard, 88, of Helmstetler Road, Lexington, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, in Lexington Memorial Hospital. Born March 26, 1919, in Davidson County, he was a welder and sheet metal fabricator retiring from Fab Masters.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Howard Baker and the Rev. Bill Sosebee officiating. Burial followed in Sandy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home. Memorials may be directed to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4299 South N.C. Highway 150, Lexington, N.C. 27295.

Gerald Moree
LEXINGTON — Gerald Wayne Moree, 58, of Crestwood Circle in Lexington, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at his home. Born Jan. 21, 1949, in Rockingham County, he was a delivery driver for The Dispatch and he served his country in the U.S. Marines.
Memeorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Crisis Ministry of Davidson County 107 East 1st Avenue, Lexington, N.C. 27292.

Glenn S. Nance
Mr. Glenn S. Nance, 86, of 183 Oak Knoll Drive, died at his home on Jan. 10, 2008.
Glenn was born May 8, 1921, in Randolph County to Norman Glenn and Hattie Jackson Nance. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in Western Europe during World War II. Glenn was an expert wood crafter who retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries after 34 years of service. He also retired from Genuine Parts Company (NAPA) after 15 years of service. He was a long-time member of Rich Fork Baptist Church in Thomasville.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Joyce McDowell Nance, of the home; one daughter, Sharon Owen of Lexington, and two sons of Thomasville, David Nance and wife Karlyn, and Wayne Nance and wife Andrea; six grandchildren, Paula Kingdon and husband Jim, Stephanie Williams, Kimberly Nance, Jason Nance and wife Jamie, Katherine Brown and husband Adam, and Charles David (Cid) Nance; four great-grandchildren, Ethan and Briana Williams, Eli Kingdon, and Joseph Nance. Glenn is also survived by his two sisters, Jewel Ridgeway and Veva Lewallen; and his two brothers, Reitzel Nance and wife Peggy and Max Nance Sr. and wife Lorene.
A service commemorating Glenn’s life and home going will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rich Fork Baptist Church with ministers Michael Bowers and Bob James officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park. Visitation will be held today from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale and at other times at the home of David and Karlyn Nance.
Assisting the celebration service as pallbearers will be Adam Brown, Steve Haynes, Jim Kingdon, Chuck Nance, Jason Nance and Max Nance Jr.
Memorials are requested to be made to either the debt retirement fund of Rich Fork Baptist Church, 3993 Old Highway 29, Thomasville, N.C. 27360 or to the bus fund of Trinity Baptist Church, P.O. Box 9, Trinity, N.C. 27370.

Maxine G. Pell
Mrs. Maxine G. Pell, 82, a resident of Thomasville, died Jan. 11, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center.
Maxine was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Thomasville, N.C. a daughter of the late Henry and Daisy Embler Grubb. She had lived most of her life in Davidson County and was a volunteer for Thomasville Medical Center and Meals on Wheels. Her special interests were church, flowers and gardening. In 1977 she retired from Pilot Life. Mrs. Pell attended Hillside Park Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother Clay Grubb. On April 29, 1944, she married Calvin C. Pell who survives of the Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community.
Also surviving are her sons: Ronald (Ron) Pell and his wife Bobbie of Marshall, N.C., Lonnie M. Pell and his wife Peggy of Melbourne, Fla. and Daniel (Dan) Pell and his wife Sarah of Madison, N.C. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One niece and one nephew.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with the Rev. Steve Chipps officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The Pell family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hillside Park Baptist Church, P.O. Box 441 Thomasville, N.C. 27361.
