SALISBURY — Mr. Terry Roger Aikens, 50, a resident of Salisbury, N.C., died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at his home.
Terry was born on Oct. 24, 1957, in Guilford County, a son to Leroy Aikens and Bernice McMahan Aikens. He was a subcontractor and had worked for Duke Power. He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Ann C. Beard
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Ann C. Beard, 69, a resident of Colonial Club Drive, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, in High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 17, 1938, in Davidson County, a daughter of the late John and Pauline Vick Coffee. She was a graduate of Thomasville High School and attended Meredith College. She was employed with the Thomasville Times as Woman’s Editor, retiring following 45 years of service. She was also a member of the Thomasville Woman’s Club and its Art Department, and First Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with the Rev. Bynum Orr officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and other times at the home.

Edward R. “Ted” Blake Jr.
WINSTON-SALEM — Edward R. “Ted” Blake Jr., of Fieldstone Drive, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday at Oak Forest United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel.

Fallie Mae Carrick
LEXINGTON — Fallie Mae Carrick, 82, died Friday, May 30, 2008 at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Carrick was born on Oct. 31, 1925, in Davidson County to Lois Carrick and Creola Owen Carrick. She worked as a pairer at Thornton Hosiery and Surratt Hosiery. She was also a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence on Highway 8.

LEXINGTON — Arlene Walser Curry, 84, beloved mother and grandmother, of North Highway 150, died on Saturday, May 31, 2008.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren by the Pastor Mark Craddock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will received friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Piedmont Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at Mrs. Curry’s home.

THOMASVILLE — Michael Sean Foley, 53, of 28 King Row, died Friday, May 30, 2008, at his residence.

Gary Lee Hunt
LEXINGTON — Gary Lee Hunt, 62, of Hames St., died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Mr. Hunt was born on June 10, 1945, in Davidson County, to Floyd Frederick Hunt and Lela Josephine Lanning Hunt. He was married to Sallie Hicks Hunt, who survives of the home.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Bruner officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Stella Owen
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Stella Mae Wilson Owen, 96, a resident of Price St. in Thomasville, died Monday, June 2, 2008, at her home.
A lifelong resident of Davidson County, she was born Oct. 11, 1911, a daughter to John H. Wilson and Kate Suggs Wilson. Stella was a loving and caring mother and held the esteem position of Matriarch of the Wilson family. She worked at Carolina Underwear for 55 years and had been a member of First Baptist Church from a very young age. Mrs. Owen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Robert, Clarence, Everett and Paul Wilson; and sisters, Gradie Wilson Grubb and Peggy Wilson Hill. She was married to Carl “Shorty” Owen who died in 1962.
Surviving are her daughter, Betty Jane Owen Karasiewicz of the home; a brother, Donald Newal Wilson and his wife, Lois, of Thomasville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and six nieces, three nephews, special care giver Brenda Critzer and many caring friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. Byron Barker officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service on Wednesday.

Linda Skeen
TRINITY — Mrs. Linda Johnson Skeen, 64, of Trinity died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at her residence.
She was born on Nov. 23, 1943, in Wilmington, N.C. to David and Elizabeth Croker Johnson. She had been Master of Trinity Grange for 22 years and was a member of New Life Family Church in Jamestown.
Mrs. Skeen was married to Bruce A. Skeen, who survives of the residence. Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa Skeen of Summerfield; a son, Anthony “Tony” Skeen and wife, Leann, of Thomasville; her mother, Elizabeth Croker Johnson of Trinity; a brother, Charles David Johnson and wife, Brenda, of Lexington; and two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Brandon.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with the Rev. Bob Pavlacka and the Rev. Tony Moore officiating. The committal service will be in God’s Little Acre at Baptist Children’s Home in Thomasville with the Rev. Georgianne Jones officiating.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Royster Tucker Jr.
HIGH POINT — Mr. Royster Milton Tucker, Jr., 76, of 1223 Devonshire Avenue in High Point, died on Friday, May 30, 2008, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born on May 31, 1931, in High Point, North Carolina, the son of the late Nell Hayden and Royster Milton Tucker. He graduated from High Point High School in 1949. In 1953 he graduated from the College of Engineering of Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He went through Duke under the Naval Reserve Officer’s Training program. He was chosen as a member of Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honor fraternity: of Pi Mu Epsilon mathematics honor fraternity and the Order of St. Patrick, an honorary leadership in engineering fraternity. From Duke University, Mr. Tucker went directly to the U.S. Navy as an officer in the Civil Engineering Corps. He served for two years at the United States Naval Base in Charleston, S.C. and a year and a half at the Marine Corp Supply center in Albany, Ga.
He was a lifelong member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities through the years. He was also a former member of the High Point Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Furniture City American Business Club and the High Point American Business Club. He was active in the High Point Chamber of Commerce for many years and was a former director of the High Point United Way.
On Feb. 6, 2008, Mr. Tucker retired after 53 years of service from North State Communications where at the time of his retirement he was Chairman of the Board and President. He served as President of the North Carolina Telecommunications Industry Association in 1960 and was on the Board of Directors of the Association for 48 years. In 2003, he was awarded the NCTIA distinguished Service Award. He was a former director of the United States Telecommunications Association, High Point Bank and Lexom Communications. He was a member of the High Point Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a Midget League Basketball Coach at the High Point YMCA for many years. He was an avid tennis player, serving as a longtime member of the tennis committee of High Point Country Club where he was instrumental in hiring the Club’s first full-time tennis professional. He was devoted to his family, especially his son and four grandsons, as well as the employees of North State Communications.
On June 19, 1954, he married Martha Renfro Tucker (Bootsy) who survives of the home. Surviving in addition to his wife is one son, Royster M. Tucker III and his wife, Donna Feimster Tucker; four grandsons, Roster Milton Tucker IV, John Austin Tucker, William Sloan Tucker and Davis Summers Tucker. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Nell Tucker, and a sister, Mrs. Diane Tucker Smith. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Velva Tucker Quinn (Cookie) of High Point, North Carolina.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Drive, High Point, N.C. with Bishop Thomas B. Stockton, the Reverend Richard A. Howle and the Reverend Barry P. Osborn officiating. Interment followed in the Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Tucker remained at Sechrest Funeral Service until placed into the church thirty minutes before the service.
The family received friends in the Asbury Room at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Serving as active pallbearers were, Jon Cage, Jim McCarson, Bill Dula, Mark Dula, Richard Worden, Buck Williford and Coulson. Present and former employees of North State Communications served as honorary pallbearers.

Annie L. Weaver
LEXINGTON — Annie Elizabeth Weaver, 74, a resident of Lamb Road, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, in the Hospice Home of High Point.
Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with the Pastor Howard Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Marvin Woempner
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Marvin Gale Woempner, 77, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born on March 18, 1931, in Fort Lupton, Colo., the son of Jack and Verla Ryan Woempner. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1956, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. He retired after 28 years of service from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as manager of the Research and Development Machine Shop and since operated his own business, Woempner Machine Company. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant UMC in Thomasville, where he served 18 years as chairman of the Administrative Board, a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Men, chairman of the Sanctuary Building Committee, Lay Leader and various other programs. He was a member of the High Point Chapter of National AMBUCS, where he served as director of the Southern Region and enjoyed the company of his special friends.
He met and married his loving wife of 53 years, Peggy Saintsing on Feb. 5, 1955, who survives of the home; also surviving are two sons, Jay Scott Woempner of Winston-Salem and Ken Ryan Woempner and wife, Renee, of Thomasville; one daughter, Karen Gale Miller and husband ,Chip, of Raleigh, NC; four grandsons, Daniel and Benjamin Miller and Ken and Ryan Woempner; one brother, Jerry Woempner and wife, Alica; five brothers-in-law, Raeford, Dallas, Arville, Bobby and Jimmy Saintsing; and three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Morton, Deanie Griffitts and Ellen Woempner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon Leigh; brothers, Jack and Stan Woempner; and a sister, Irene Dodero.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with the Rev. Ardis D. Payne and the Rev. Chris Clontz officiating. Graveside service will follow in Mt. Pleasant UMC cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. and family and friends are invited to pay their respects anytime after 1 p.m. today.
